Born on March 8, 1983, in Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria, Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour, simply known as Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour or GRV, is a Nigerian politician, activist, and architect. He was a senatorial candidate for the west senatorial district in Lagos during the Nigerian Senate elections in the state in 2019, representing the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and is currently a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Lagos State, representing the Labour Party (LP). 



Early life and education

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was born on March 8, 1983, Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria, to Mrs. Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour and Barrister Olawale Rhodes-Vivour. He completed his primary school education and part of his secondary school education (up until JSS3) at Chrisland School before attending the Ecol Artive Berlin in Paris, France, to complete the rest of his secondary school education. 

After graduating from the Ecol Artive Berlin in Paris, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour attended the University of Nottingham, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Architecture. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he acquired a master's degree in the same field. 


In 2008, after completing his first master's degree in Architecture, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour took part in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) until 2009 before acquiring a second master's degree from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Research and Public Policy.



Career


Architectural career

While in the United Kingdom, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour worked as an architect with Franklin Ellis Architects before moving to Nigeria to work with firms like SISA, Patrick Wayi, and Cliff Consulting (now known as Building Partnership CCP).


Political career

In 2017, under the KOWA party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour contested for the position of chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area. He lost the election to a candidate from the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In 2019, under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour contested for the position of senator in the Lagos west senatorial district. One of the promises he made if elected was to revamp the infrastructure within the Lagos west district. He unfortunately lost the election to the All Progressive Congress' (APC) senatorial candidate, Adeola "Yayi" Olamilekanola.


Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is currently a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Lagos State, representing the Labour Party (LP). He was previously a nominee billed to contest in the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) primary election for the party representative in the Lagos State governorship election but pulled out before the primary election was held and cross-carpeted to the Labour Party (LP). 



Activism

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is the convener of "Nigerians Against GMO," an advocacy and civil society group that fights against the Genetically Modified Foods in Nigeria. In 2016, the group tackled Akinwumi Adeshina, the Nigerian minister of agriculture, and Monsanto, following claims by the latter that GMOs are not harmful. 

In 2017, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour led a 2,000-man march, alongside Nnimmo Bassey, to the Nigerian Senate to support the fight against environmental degradation. 


In commemoration of World Malaria Day in 2022, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour collaborated with WellaHealth to make provisions for insurance and free health checks for 1 million Lagosians with a voter's card.
